Overview

The Data Governance - Parameters tab lets you create domains, which are for categorizing or classifying parameters, factors, and responses. Domains can be defined in hierarchical (nested) structures of parent-child relationships. The following diagram shows an example of a domain hierarchy with multiple levels of parent-child relationships that you can use to categorize parameters.

The Domains panel on the left of the Data Governance - Parameters tab displays a list of existing domains. When you select a domain from the left panel, the list of parameters on the right is filtered to display only the parameters that associated to it.

A parent domain is indicated by an expand (>) icon to the right of the corresponding domain name. When you click or tap the expand icon for a parent domain, any associated child domains are displayed, which are visually indented by their hierarchical levels. A parent domain can potentially have ten (10) levels of nested child domains defined.

Create a domain

To create a domain:

1. Navigate to the Data Governance - Parameters tab.

2. Click or tap the + Domain button either in the Domains panel or the Create Domain button at the top right of the list of parameters.

   

   The New Domain dialog appears.

   

3. In the Domain Name field, type a unique name for the new domain in the field.

4. Optional: If you want to associate the new domain as a child domain to an existing domain, click or tap the Parent Domain field and select an existing domain name as the parent.

5. Click or tap Save.

   The new domain is saved in the database.

Edit a domain nsme

To edit a domain:

1. On the Data Governance - Parameters tab, click or tap the Edit icon for the domain name that you want to edit.

   The Edit domain dialog appears.

   

2. Edit the name of the domain, as needed.

3. Optional: Edit the parent domain in the Parent Domain field.

4. Click or tap Save.

Parent domains

Domains can be nested in parent-child relationships. For example, a parent domain may represent a research lab. A child domain of that parent domain may represent physical location within that research lab. The nesting of domains is supported to 10 levels.

A parent domain is indicated by an expand icon (>) on the right side. When you click or tap the expand icon for a parent domain, its associated child domains in an indented outline box are displayed.

Any domain that has been associated to a parent domain can be "moved" (or associated) to a different domain by using the Move Domain function, which is outlined in the following section.

Move an existing domain to a parent domain

The Move Domain function lets you to move an existing domain to either a parent domain, or move an existing domain from one parent domain to another parent domain.

• If an existing domain is not associated to a parent domain, you can click and drag the field for the existing domain over target parent domain. The existing domain will be displayed as being indented below the parent domain to indicate that it has become a child domain.

• If an existing domain is already associated to a parent domain, you can click and drag it to a different parent domain.

To move a domain:

1. On the Parameters tab, click and hold your cursor over the six vertical dots icon that is to the left of the domain name that you want to move.

   

2. Drag the domain name so that its display field is hovering over the target position and release it.

   

Delete a domain

CoBaseKRM supports the ability to delete a domain from the database.

Warning

Once you have deleted a domain, you will not be able to recover it. A deleted unit of measurement will be removed from views and fields where it was previously available for use.

To delete a domain:

1. On the Data Governance - Parameters view, press the Delete icon beside the domain that you want to delete.

   The Delete domain dialog appears.

   

   Note

   To cancel the deletion, press Cancel.

2. To proceed with the deletion, type the exact name of the domain in the case-sensitive input field.

3. Click or tap Delete Domain.

   The domain is removed from the Domains list and is also deleted from the database.
